Taking care of vision problems promptly often means keeping your eyes healthy, to delay getting your eyes taken care of when there are symptoms of problems is a very risky thing.

There are many types of vision problems, they can range from infections and trauma to hereditary diseases and other diseases with many causes including environmental harm and dietary problems. Lets categorize some of them for quick reference.

Eye infections – Sinusitis type infections which can involve one or both eyes can be very painful and manifest themselves with pain, swelling, redness and tearing or even discharge. Antibiotics are usually the order of the day when a sinus infection gets so bad as to involve the eyes.

Conjunctivitis or “pink eye” is a very common and highly contagious disease causing redness in the eye and lining with a discharge that tends to be pus-like and includes itching and a sandpaper type pain of the eyes. This is such a contagious infection that when kids get it in schools they are usually sent home to avoid infecting others. There are many remedies for pink eye including herbal and home remedies that work well but it is advised to get medical treatment.

Allergies - Hay fever and other types of allergies such as smoke or even sand can cause vision problems, often there is a blurring of the vision because of discharge and painful, itchy eyes. Antihistamines and removal of the allergen is the normal treatment for this type of vision problem.

Diseases affecting the eyes – Diabetes is a major factor in many eye problems, even blindness. As diabetes gets worse, the vision symptoms do as well. Proper treatment in diabetes is of all importance.

Glaucoma is a very serious eye disorder in which the pressure inside the eye can cause nerve damage leading to vision problems and even blindness. One of the routine tests done by optometrists is a glaucoma test. It is important to see your eye care professional if there are any signs of glaucoma such as halos around lights and peripheral vision loss.

Cataracts - A common malady of older eyes, it is characterized by blurred and clouded vision that can lead to blindness if not treated by a medical professional, oftentimes surgery is the best remedy.

Dietary issues - When an improper diet is followed there will generally be symptoms occurring that are widely varied. One of the most common symptoms is the night vision problem. The proverbial carrot can do more to help this than drugs. Poor night vision is just one of the many vision issues that can be cured simply by diet as long as diet is the cause. Sometimes diet can help in the cure of other vision diseases and disorders but it shouldn’t be relied on for total vision treatment in these cases.
